DMK Alkaline Wash system is an effective treatment for all areas of the face and body, designed to significantly reduce fine, downy hair (vellus hair). This type of hair is very difficult to remove with other methods as the growth is usually dense and would take a long time to treat with electrolysis. It is also not suitable for treatment with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or Laser because this type of hair has no colour for the laser to target. Alkaline wash cannot stimulate the hair as the alkaline has a damaging and dissolving effect on the follicle and cannot encourage hair growth.
Alkaline Wash can remove large areas of vellus hair in one treatment without the discomfort associated with other hair-removal systems such as waxing. It also works well when in the treatment of thicker, darker hair (terminal hair) if combined with electrolysis or laser. A patch test must be carried out at least 24hrs prior to treatment to ensure that your skin is suitable for the Alkaline Wash treatment. Initially treatment will be carried out every 2 weeks.
How does it work?
Alkaline Wash is an alkaline powder which is mixed with distilled water to form a paste, applied to the skin and left for approximately 2.5-5 mins depending on the area and the hair being treated. It works by increasing the pH level within the treated area and dissoliving the hair, with each treatment further weakening the hair root and growth. Alkaline wash is completely pain-free, however in some cases the area can appear red and warm which is normal and will subside after a short period of time.
How long before results can be seen?
After your first treatment, the hair will grow back at its normal rate, but as treatments progress the hair regrowth rate will become slower and slower, the hair will weaken and the density of the fine downy hair will diminish quite considerably. It is impossible to estimate how many treatments are needed as permanent removal is dependent on many things. For example, how the hair has been previously treated, how long it has been there, the reasons for the hair growth etc. Some clients report a reduction in hair growth after just one treatment, however there is no guarantee as every client’s skin is different. In my experience, many clients get a noticeable reduction in growth very quickly and then only require periodic treatments as the hair growth lessens.
